Economic activity always involves encroachment upon nature. A special responsibility for protecting the environment arises from this for ZF Lenksysteme GmbH (ZFLS) and its subsidiaries. ZFLS therefore takes environmental protection into consideration in all entrepreneurial decisions.
(from: ZFLS Environmental Policy)
In a company with more than 10,000 employees and 17 production facilities in 10 countries, environmental protection is a complex task. It starts with the individual employee and encompasses all activities. Negative effects on the environment resulting from the manufacture, use and future disposal of ZFLS products are minimized by taking suitable measures.
Environmental protection is divided into technical and organizational environmental protection.
Technical environmental protection mainly covers production and the product itself including the aspects water, air, waste, soil and energy.
The primary goal in production is to operate within the law and reduce the burdens in the areas water, air, waste, soil and energy. Ultimately this protects and conserves resources.
This is done allowing for ecological and economic aspects.
Environmental protection is playing an increasingly important role where the product is concerned. Especially the European end-of-life-vehicle directive and regulations lay down demands on materials, recyclability, identification and dismantling.
In organizational environmental protection the focus is on environmental management in compliance with ISO 14001. As early as 1999 the first ZF location was certified to this international environmental management standard.
